Resource Purpose |
This report is organized as follows: Section 2 introduces 30 hydrologic models, summarizes the methodology and criteria used to review and describe the models and their applications, and discusses the underlying considerations for selecting and applying a model. Because of the volume of technical material reviewed, the hydrologic models and their applications are discussed and ranked in Appendix
1. The objective of this organization is to limit the length and technical content of the main report, thus emphasizing the decision-support aspect of model selection. Section 3 provides this decision support, including a step-wise approach to model selection, and an overview of the main advantages and disadvantages of the nine hydrologic models identified as being the most appropriate for answering forest management questions. Current barriers to the operational use of models in a forest management context are discussed in Section 4, while Section 5 researches the suitability of select models for exploring potential climate change effects on future watershed processes and outputs relevant to forest management. A summary of the main findings of this synthesis is provided in Section 6. |
