The purpose of this project was to assess the stream channels within the Albreda River watershed for impacts relating to the forestry development and to development restoration prescriptions for any impacted sites that were identified. Identification of fisheries values within the watershed and potential opportunities for rehabilitating any fish habitat were also primary objectives. Integrated Woods Services was contacted by Slocan Group, Vavenby Division to complete a 'Channel Conditions and Prescription Assessment' (Government of BC 1996) for the Albreda River watershed. The watershed boundary defined by the BC Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks (MOELP) was utilized for this project with some adjustments made to the boundary to correct hydrologic inaccuracies. Portions of the Clemina and Dominion watersheds had been erroneously included in the Albreda River watershed. The point of interest in the watershed is the confluence of the Albreda and North Thompson Rivers. For purposes of hydrologic analysis, the sub-basins were defined within the study area and these are the 'Oasis Creek', 'Dora Creek', and 'Residual' sub-basins. Fisheries values within the watershed are high and include habitat for both anadromous salmonids (coho-salmon) and resident salmonids (bull trout, rainbow trout, and mountain white fish). Accessible fish habitat is generally restricted to the mainstem of the Albreda River (and its floodplain) and the lower reaches of tributary streams. The funding for this project was provided through Forest Renewal British Columbia (FRBC), with Slocan acting as the lead proponent. |
