On August 1, 2000 a continuous flow was initiated from Terzaghi Dam for the improvement of fish habitat conditions in the Lower Bridge River. Monitoring studies were conducted to: 1) examine the relationship between water flows and the fisheries resource, and 2) collect baseline information in possible metal contamination in the physical environment and biota of the Bridge River watershed. To monitor the impact of flow releases the five main activities were undertaken May 1, 2000 and December 31, 2000. These include: 1) continuous monitoring of water stage, water temperature and light intensity; 2) seasonal sampling of water chemistry, periphyton accrual, and macroinvertebrate abundance; 3) season sampling of fish growth and a fall standing stock survey to estimate relative productivity of fish populations; 4) sampling of water, sediment, and fish tissue for metal contaminants; and 5) a habitat inventory to assess changes in wetted area and hydraulics in the river. The purpose of this report is to document field studies conducted during the year 2000. water quality, monitoring |
