Strengths |
New observation wells used to calibrate data from surfce geophysical surveys greatly increase our understanding of unconsolidated aquifers in the region. |
Limitations |
Although there is a numberof water wells in this area from the MoE WELLS database, the quality of the geological data is questionable. Discrepancies between the stratigraphy presented by others indicate units vary from place to place and geology is unpredictable. |
Challenges |
The thickness, lateral extent and connectivity of these horizons are integral to understanding groundwater availability. Oil and gas wells, though numerous in the region, seldom log the unconsolidated materials overlying the bedrock missing a great opportunity to understand the unconsolidated geology of this and other paleovalleys in the NE BC region. |
Outstanding Research Questions |
Are the waters encountered in the lower aquifer, at the thalweg of the paleovalley, hydraullically connected to the waters of the upper aquifer? |
