Abstract/Description or Keywords |
The objectives of this Small Works project were: 1) to determine works needed to improve spawning and rearing habitat conditions, specifically to examine the two water intakes, settling pond dividers, and artificial overhead cover structures, and 2) to organize the artificial replenishment of spawning size gravel in the side channel. A work plan was then developed to address improving rainbow trout spawning and rearing habitat in the side channel. The workplan included: a) A habitat description of existing conditions within the side channel. b) Obtaining permission to access the side channel for maintenance works to be proposed. c) Develop a prescription based on (a) and submit an application for instream works to Ministry of Environment for approval. d) Implement the maintenance prescription with interested conservation groups. e) Liase with conservation groups and FWCP communications staff in developing a press release. |
