The Wasa Lake Land Improvement District is a local government organization dedicated to maintaining water quality and quantity of Wasa Lake. Wasa Lake is located in the south eastern corner of British Columbia. The Wasa Lake Land Improvement District (WLLID) was formed in 1969 at the request of residents. Its mandate is to maintain water quality and quantity of Wasa Lake. A land improvement district is a form of local government usually responsible for only one or two activities, such as waterworks or fire protection. The WLLID is administered by five trustees elected at the Annual General Meeting for a three year term. Trustees are community volunteers and are not paid for their time. Over the years, the activities of the WLLID have ranged from raising awareness about water and wildfire issues, to the installation of two floodgates which help to mitigate the effects of flooding. |
