Birk Creek is located approximately 90 kilometres (km) north of Kamloops, British Columbia on the north side of the Barriere River. Integrated Woods Services ltd. was requested by Tolko Industries Ltd, Louis Creek Division (lead proponent) to complete the Birk Creek Channel Conditions and Prescription Assessment (CCPA) in August 1997. The objective of the Birk Creek Channel Conditions and Prescription Assessment (CCPA) is to assess watershed processes that control channel conditions so that appropriate rehabilitation techniques can be prescribed and implemented with long term success. Emphasis is placed upon assessing the risk to restoration works by considering sediment transfers along the drainage network. The CCPA is one component of the Forest Renewal British Columbia, Watershed Restoration Program (WRP) that is currently in progress in the watershed. The CCPA is intended to supplement several other assessment procedures, particularly the Fish Habitat Assessment Procedure (FHAP). The CCPA incorporates the Channel Assessment Procedure (CAP) Guidebooks of the Forest Practices Code of British Columbia.
