Abstract/Description or Keywords This project synthesizes currently available local data related to the effects of salvaging
or not salvaging stands killed by mountain pine beetle (MPB) on equivalent clearcut area (ECA).
ECA is an indicator of the amount of forest disturbance in a watershed, and is one factor
considered by professional hydrologists when predicting the hydrological effects of proposed
watershed management. The primary goal of the project was to predict the short- and long-term
ECA effects of different management options for MPB-affected stands and an overall watershed
(Chase-Charcoal Creek, south of Chase, BC). Secondary goals were to assess the effects of
alternative assumptions and identify main sources of uncertainty in the ECA predictions. Two
longer reports detail the stand and watershed level methods and results2
. ECA, mountain pine beetle, forest harvest, salvage, peak flow, snowmelt
