The Quilchena Creek above Wasley Creek watershed is 235.7 km squared in area with plateau-like terrain over much of the basin. Elevations range from about 1100 m at the confluence with Wasley Creek, to 1834 m at Culmination Point. Highway 97C crosses the upper portion of the watershed (Sunset lake area). This report presents the results of an overview hydrologic assessment of the Quilchena Creek above Wasley Creek watershed which is located east of Merritt. Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd. (Merritt Division) initiated the study, partly in response to the results of the 1997 Merritt Forest District IWAP, and partly to address concerns from the Ministry of Forests. Concerns included peak flows, surface erosion, and the impact of the five-year forest development plan. Fieldwork was carried out in October 1998. |
