Abstract/Description or Keywords water quality, clarity, turbidity, lake, Concerns have been expressed about increasing impacts on water quality in Shuswap, Mara and
Gardom Lakes from land use and recreational activities. Water clarity in Shuswap Lake was
monitored by a group of volunteers using standard Secchi discs in 1986, 2009 and 2010. The
results were assessed to determine areas of decreased water clarity and to determine if any trends
were observed. Several areas in the lake with poor water clarity were identified and a slightly
improving trend was observed between 1986 and 2009/2010 in Shuswap Lake.
