Abstract/Description or Keywords Olalla Creek is a community watershed. In accordance with the Forest Practices Code as part of the Forest Development Plan process, Gorman Bros. Lumber Ltd. (Gorman) commissioned a watershed assessment for Olalla Creek. Wildstone Engineering Ltd. (Wildstone) completed an assessment of current watershed conditions in the Olalla Creek Community Watershed and prepared guidelines for the forest development work proposed by Gorman. Mr. Kerry Rouck, R.P .F. was the Gorman project contact for this work. Figure l, following this page, shows that Olalla Creek is a tributary ofKeremeos Creek situated north of Keremeos and west of Highway 3A. Olalla Creek enters Keremeos Creek at the community of Olalla. The watershed assessment results will be used during planning for future harvesting operations and to identify opportunities for watershed restoration work. The work completed for this assessment complies with the protocols presented in the April 1999 version of the `Watershed Assessment Procedure Guidebook" (WAP Guidebook). The watershed assessment results presented in this report describe the current watershed conditions with respect to water quality and quantity, as well as the present channel conditions in the watershed. Forest development plans for the Olalla Creek watershed area will be guided by the results of this WAPto ensure that timber harvesting and road construction activities do not negatively affect watershed values. Procedures for the WAP included collecting watershed background information to describe hydrological hazards in the watershed. This background information is field verified through overview sediment source and channel surveys of the hazard sites identified. The field data and background information is assessed to characterize current watershed conditions and to describe the risks associated with future development. watershed assessment, forest harvest
