Abstract/Description or Keywords The Newhykulston Creek watershed is located approximately 95 km north of Kamloops, BC and is a tributary stream to the North Thompson River. In February 2000, Tolko Industries Ltd. - Louis Creek Division (Tolko) retained Summit Environmental Consultants Ltd. (Summit) to conduct a hydrological assessment of the Newhykulston Creek (also known locally as Coal Creek) watershed. The assessment was conducted in accordance with the standards presented in the most recent Interior Watershed Assessment Procedure (WAP) Guidebook (MOF and MELP, 1999). The general objectives of the study were to assess the conditions of the Newhykulston Creek watershed, to provide guidance for future forest development, and to identify potential restoration opportunities. Specific tasks included: 1) A search for previous assessments carried out in the watershed (none were identified); 2) An overview office-based assessment of the watershed, including mapping and basic measurements; 3) A field inspection, including helicopter reconnaissance and ground-based assessments of channel conditions, sediment sources, and human activity; 4) Development of recommendations for watershed restoration; 5) An assessment of proposed forest development, including recommendations for mitigation of potential impacts on the stream network. watershed assessment, forest harvest
