Abstract/Description or Keywords |
The general objectives of the study were to assess the conditions of the Barrierre River watershed, to provide guidance for future forest development, and to identify potential restoration opportunities. Specific tasks included: 1) A review of previous assessments carried out in the watershed; 2) An overview office-based assessment of the watershed, including mapping and basic measurements; 3) A field inspection, including helicopter reconnaissance and ground-based assessments of channel conditions, sediment sources, and human activity; 4) Development of recommendations for watershed restoration; 5) An assessment of proposed forest development, including recommendations for mitigation of potential impacts on the stream network. This report (Volume 1) and the attached maps 1 to 14 (Volume 2) present the results of the study. A glossary of technical terms is provided in Section 7.0. Representative photographs of the watershed are presented in Appendix A; summaries of previous and proposed harvesting and hydrologic recovery are presented in Appendix B; details of the channel assessment appear in Appendix C; and the sediment source survey is presented in Appendix D. Appendix E presents the methodology used in determining the channel response potential (discussed in Section 3.0) and Appendix F includes the detailed spreadsheets used for ECA calculations. |
