The Wylie Creek study area (Figure 1.1) is a face unit draining east into Clearwater River (Figure 1.1), the headwaters of which lie within Tree Farm License 18, held by Slocan Forest Products Ltd., Vavenby Division (Slocan). A Level I IWAP (Interior Watershed Assessment Procedure) analysis (Forsite, 1997) identified an extensive road network in the Wylie Creek study area and recommended further assessment of the roads with respect to sediment production potential. The general objectives of this study were to assess the condition of the Wylie Creek watershed, to identify potential restoration opportunities, and to provide guidance for future forest development. Specific tasks undertaken include: 1) Overview office-based assessment of the watershed, including mapping and basic measurements; 2) Field inspection, including helicopter reconnaissance and ground-based assessments of channel conditions, sediment sources and human activity, as well as identification of potential restoration sites; 3) Evaluation of the hydrologic and geomorphic characteristics of the basin; 4) Assessment of proposed forest development, including recommendations for mitigation of potential impacts on the stream network.
