Abstract/Description or Keywords This section has been included in this report to provide background information supporting the water management designs. The work was carried out for the Feasibility Study (June 2004) and the EIA Report (September 2005). Additional data has been collected since and is included in the attachments to this Appendix. 1.1 General: (Ref: Feasibility Section 3.5) The Kemess North mine site area is located at approximately 1600 m above sea level and is characterized by warm dry summers and cold wet winters. The wettest months occur from September to January; however, rain can occur in almost all months. Temperatures range from -50o C, to over 33o C, with December to February being the coldest months. Hydro-meteorological data are available from Kemess South Mine, as well as data from other nearby mines and Environment Canada stations. Data from all three sources have been used to establish appropriate average annual precipitation, evaporation and runoff coefficients as well as return period wet and dry year precipitation. Meteorological and hydrological analyses have been undertaken based on a hydrologic year (October through September) to correlate precipitation that falls as both rain and snow over the winter months to the runoff and peak flows that result during the spring freshet. Details of the hydrology assessment are presented in Appendix II and summarized in the following sections.
