Abstract/Description or Keywords The CAFN Water Strategy is being developed to provide a foundation to bring a focused and integrated approach to management of water in our traditional territory. It defines a broad vision that reflects CAFN core values and cultural beliefs of water. These values are based on respect for water and a collective responsibility to take good care of it. Seven goals have been defined that are intended to support achieving this vision. The strategy also further identifies a set of recommended actions that should be carried out to support the goals. The actions are based on our current understanding of the best available tools and information. In order to implement these actions, a large investment of time, energy, as well as human and financial resources, will be required. CAFN does not have the current capacity, expertise or resources to implement all of these actions but will work toward doing as much as possible within the given context and capacity, and within the wide range of responsibilities of the CAFN government. A key piece of this strategy is to build our overall capacity to achieve the vision and goals. Working with other governments and agencies will be a key piece to the successful implementation of this strategy. The strategy recognizes conditions, issues and opportunities will change from year-to-year and will require some flexibility in the way we achieve these goals. Nonetheless, this strategy provides a baseline for the CAFN government to work from. The strategy, and all actions carried out under the guidance of this strategy, will be subject to periodic review and reporting.
