Abstract/Description or Keywords This watershed plan for the Cypre Watershed Planning Unit was developed in accordance
with the principles and recommendations set out by the Clayoquot Sound Scientific Panel
to guide planning for sustainable ecosystem management in Clayoquot Sound. The Plan
encompasses all of the Cypre Watershed Planning Unit, an area approximately 24,500
hectares in size, located to the east of Herbert Inlet, to the south of Strathcona Provincial
Park and Ursus Valley, to the north of Calmus Passage, and to the west of the Bulson
Creek watershed. It does not apply to provincial parks, Indian Reserves, federal lands, or
private land.
The purpose of the Plan is to map and designate the areas set aside as reserves to protect a
range of forest values. The Plan also maps and designates the harvestable area – that is, the
land that falls outside of reserves and on which sustainable forest harvesting can take
place. Within the harvestable area, special management zones are identified which require
that certain conditions and limitations be imposed on harvesting and other management
activities in order to maintain special and sensitive values, including cultural, scenic,
recreation and tourism values.
