Abstract/Description or Keywords Associations between stream characteristics and different life history stages of fish were summarized for
the 86 species and 13 additional subspecies and forms of freshwater fish that exist in British Columbia
and the Yukon. Of the 99 freshwater species/subspecies, all but six occur in streams during part of their
life cycle. Four habitat characteristics were summarized (depth, substrate type, cover type, and flow type)
for four life cycle stages (spawning, young-of-the-year, juvenile and adult). Overall, there is a general
lack of information pertaining to the stream habitat requirements for the many fish species that are found
in BC and Yukon. In particular, research and information on stream habitat requirements is lacking for
green sturgeon, minnows, smelts, ciscos, suckers, sculpin, lamprey, and stickleback.
