Abstract/Description or Keywords The BC Station Data page provides access to observations of weather and climate variables (such as temperature and rainfall amounts) for British Columbia from the Provincial Climate Data Set (PCDS). Locations of the observing stations are shown on an interactive map of the province which enables a user to zoom and pan to a region of interest, learn about the stations that are located in the region, filter the displayed stations based on observation date, weather element, observing agency, region and more. In order to download the observational data themselves, users are required to log-in to the page using an OpenID (link is external) account.

Access and download BC Station Data.

In addition to observations, users may download station meta-data that describes station location, available variables, observing agency and other basic information.

The data available from the page are part of a dynamic database. Near real-time ingestion of hourly data from Environment Canada is under way, with near real-time data from other agencies available soon. The page also provides access to climatological averages from stations where sufficient data were available for their calculation. PCIC is actively working on quality control and homogenization efforts and will update the data when these processes are complete.

The data contained in the PCDS are being made available in cooperation with the Climate Related Monitoring Program (link is external). Several BC ministries, RioTinto Alcan, BC Hydro, and PCIC were brought together under an agreement organized through the program to allow PCIC to hold, maintain and distribute climate data for British Columbia. Environment Canada supports these efforts and has permitted PCIC to collect and disseminate its data as well. The Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions provides financial support for this project. This broad cooperative effort has allowed the formation of a comprehensive set of weather and climate observation for British Columbia unlike any other in Canada.
