Abstract/Description or Keywords The New Prosperity Project is a porphyry-style gold-copper resource located in the Chilcotin Region of British Columbia (Brommeland et al. 1999). The project is located approximately 125 km southwest of Williams Lake and 250 km north of Vancouver, at latitude 51° 27’N and longitude 123° 36’ W, as shown on Figure 1.1. Site access is via 90 km of paved highway heading west from Williams Lake to Hanceville, then south-southwest on gravel road for approximately 92 km. The project area is approximately 95 km2 and consists of 196 mineral claims totaling 548 units and nine placer claims (Brommeland et al. 1999). The deposit is located in Fish Creek Valley approximately 1 km north of Fish Lake and 10 km north of Taseko Lake. Major components of the proposed mine are shown on Figure 1.2 and include: • the open pit; • the over-burden (non-reactive) stockpiles; • the non-potentially acid generating (Non-PAG) waste rock stockpile; • the low-grade (labeled as “historic”) ore stockpile • the tailings storage facility (including submerged PAG waste rock); and, • the plant site. Conventional open pit mining and conventional crushing, grinding and staged flotation methods are proposed for mining the resource. The project will include development of an onsite mill, an approximately 125 km power transmission line corridor, an access road and rail concentrate transfer station facilities (rail load-out facility) at Williams Lake (Prosperity Project Committee [PPC], 1998). The project power line corridor, access road and rail loadout facility were not considered in this assessment.
